Any child who went through the occasionally fun— but often tortuous, family holidays knows that your parents can’t really have quite the adventure you do, because they have you to worry about. Downhill is directing duo Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s attempt to bring Swedish film Force Majeure to an American audience. They choose to […]… Continue reading ‘Downhill’ is an Inferior Remake That Relies Too Much on its Predecessor — Screen Queens
Author: femalefilmfestival
The irony of this festival is that its goal is to not be around in 5 years time. To eventually not be relevant because there is zero need to have a festival geared for female talent and female stories because the stories presented in Hollywood and around the world are a balanced showcase of the human experience from both sexes.
Our goal is to achieve a lot of success and then fold into oblivion simply because there is no need for this festival.
This festival was created by the FEEDBACK Film & Writing Festival as a simple reaction to a strong need to showcase female talent from around the world in a more profound way.
When putting together the weekly festival, the administration noticed a lack of a female presence in the stories being shown at the festival.
A classic example and analogy to the frustration is how the festival noticed that even the smaller roles in a screenplay were written for a man to play. There was zero reason for this in many stories. How a police officer, or a political campaign manager, for example with 3-4 lines in a screenplay was a "HE" character. Why? And these are the screenplays written by the winners! The talented one who have obtained agents and have began/beginning their careers as a writer.
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs The Reverend’ is a Welcome Return in a Format with a lot of Faults — Screen Queens
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of the hardest shows to describe to people who haven’t seen it. Try explaining to your friends how funny the show about a girl who was kept hostage for fifteen years is, or how you laugh at her adjustment to real world scenarios— like going to college and getting a […]… Continue reading ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs The Reverend’ is a Welcome Return in a Format with a lot of Faults — Screen Queens
Zack Snyder, ‘Justice League’, and Cinema as a Tool of Healing — Screen Queens
Suicide is never an easy thing to discuss. For mental health awareness month and in light of certain events in the news, I personally felt it was important to talk about this. We don’t know the hurt that most other people go through or what really goes on beneath the surface, just what we ourselves […]… Continue reading Zack Snyder, ‘Justice League’, and Cinema as a Tool of Healing — Screen Queens
‘The Trip to Greece’ is a Charming Final Return to a Much-Loved Format — Screen Queens
It has been ten years since the first instalment of Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip debuted, following slightly-fictionalised versions of Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon on a restaurant tour of Northern England. Largely fictional but with improvised conversations about their real lives and filled with iconic impressions, comedic one-upmanship and Winterbottom’s perfect direction it was an […]… Continue reading ‘The Trip to Greece’ is a Charming Final Return to a Much-Loved Format — Screen Queens
Why You Should Revisit ‘Twin Peaks’ in Lockdown: Lynch’s ‘All Prevailing Happiness’ — Screen Queens
In his thank you message for Eraserhead, David Lynch states that whilst he knows there is plenty of suffering in the world there is this “all prevailing happiness underneath everything,”. This is key to understanding his cult television series Twin Peaks. Despite its darker moments, it has an affirming message of oneness and community. Lynch… Continue reading Why You Should Revisit ‘Twin Peaks’ in Lockdown: Lynch’s ‘All Prevailing Happiness’ — Screen Queens
Maschinenmensch: Reclaiming Masculine Creation in Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis’ — Screen Queens
The role of woman-as-cyborg has been long discussed within film theory. Many interpret the sexualisation of genderless machines as a fear of female agency and sexuality. When given a modicum of autonomy, she threatens to destroy patriarchal societal confinement, acting outside of standard constraints. We see this trope in Blade Runner (1982), where the cyborg […]… Continue reading Maschinenmensch: Reclaiming Masculine Creation in Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis’ — Screen Queens

http://www.poemsfromheartcom.wordpress.com/ What are you tryna do? I’m somewhat confused. Why are you on the ground, acting like you’re bruised? Why is it dat you seem to suffer?
